Guanacaste

The Guanacaste province of Costa Rica is renowned for its drier climate than other parts of our tropical paradise.  We expect sunny days from December through mid-May, and we often get sunshine during the mornings during the rainy season.  Located on the ,Northern Pacific side of Costa Rica Guanacaste has some of the most fabulous beaches in the country.  Surfing is a favorite pass time of many with great diving and fishing also abundant in the area.  Historically, Guanacaste has been famous for its cowboy culture.  Cattle farms are found throughout the area between the lovely mountains of Guanacaste.  You will still find horses and even oxcarts used widely in this area.

In more recent times, Guanacaste has experienced a great deal of growth.  In part due to the drier climate but also due to the fact that we have the closest international airport to the beach, Guanacaste has been the fasting growing province of Costa Rica.  The Daniel Oduber International is located only 50 minutes by paved road to Residencial La Esmeralda.  It has direct flights to North America including Atlanta, Dallas, Newark, Toronto and Los Angeles.  More flights are added constantly, making this area just a quick flight away.  For this reason and because of the gorgeous landscape and beaches of Guanacaste, this area is rapidly becoming the home of a growing expatriot community with people from Argentina, Brazil, Canada, England, France, Germany, Holland, Israel, Italy, Switzerland and the US make their homes here.  With good telephone service and high speed internet, a person can work from here just as easily as any other place in the world.  However, it’s what one can do outdoors that makes Guanacaste great.

Favorite activities in Guanacaste are quite varied.  Just 10 minutes from La Esmeralda, you find the Las Baulas National Park at Playa Grande.  This park is the nesting place of the Leatherback Turtle.  In Tamarindo, one can hire a fishing boat for the day and go after the giants of the deep such as Sailfish, Wahoo, Marlin, Mahi and Tuna.  One can also go swimming or surfing.  A short drive from La Esmeralda in either direction will land you at world-class golf courses.  Both Hacienda Pinilla and Reserva Conchal maintain fine courses and more are coming to our area soon.  Naturalists will love looking for all of the wonderful animal species that can be found in the area.  Some of the more famous are the American Crocodile, the Howler Monkey and the Green Iguana.  However, Guanacaste is full of all kinds of lesser known species that can’t be found anywhere else in the world.
